Steve joined Woodruff-Sawyer in 1981, and is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Steve has been active in partnering with technology and life sciences clients for more than 20 years.

Having launched Woodruff-Sawyer’s Clean Tech Practice, he is directly involved in continuing the firm’s tradition of bringing innovative products and solutions to the marketplace for clients. He is considered one of the foremost authorities in the United States in the rapidly evolving area for Performance Warranty coverage.

Under Steve’s leadership, Woodruff-Sawyer's Life Sciences Practice is now one of the countries largest and was selected by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) as its West Coast risk management partner. He works with organizations from new venture formation through IPO and has also been extensively involved in addressing Directors & Officers Liability needs of public company clients as part of Woodruff-Sawyer’s D&O practice.

Steve is currently a member of the Board of Directors for BayBio, the biotechnology trade organization for Northern California. He has also been involved with various non-profits committed to pressing needs in our community and around the world. These include funding educational needs in public schools, international relief for trauma and AIDS, international service projects in the developing world, medical research and financial literacy for urban youth.

Steve earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He has also earned the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
